When Change Isn’t About Fixing

Many people come to this work believing there is something they need to fix about themselves.

Often, what’s really happening is that their nervous system is still responding as if the past is present.

When the body hasn’t yet recognised that a situation is over, effort increases. People try harder, analyse more deeply, and search for insight — yet nothing quite settles.

What I notice, again and again, is that change begins when the nervous system is supported to realise it is no longer under threat.

When that recognition lands:

  • effort softens
  • clarity appears without being forced
  • patterns that once felt entrenched begin to loosen

This kind of change isn’t dramatic. It doesn’t announce itself. But it’s often the most sustainable, because it’s rooted in safety rather than striving.
